All-in-one workforce platform for healthcare — Inc. 5000 (#822 overall, #90 in software, 2024). We led frontend architecture: a typed, hooks-driven design system consumed by multiple product teams.

The Challenge

An Inc. 5000 healthcare workforce platform (#822 overall, #90 in software, 2024) had multiple product teams shipping on an aging, class-based React codebase — and delivery speed was paying the price. Each product team had grown its own patterns on the class-based codebase, so every shared change rippled unpredictably — and time-to-interactive paid the price in a product recruiters live inside all day.

Our Approach

We led frontend architecture: a typed, hooks-driven design system consumed by every product team, an incremental class-to-hooks migration with no shipping freeze, and CI on GitHub Actions. The design system was treated as a product of its own: typed APIs, versioned releases, documentation, and adoption support for every consuming team. The migration ran incrementally alongside the roadmap — no feature freeze, no big-bang branch.

Key Decisions

Design system as a product — one typed component library with clear ownership, versioning, and docs, so multiple product teams ship in parallel without stepping on each other. Migrate incrementally, keep shipping — the class-to-hooks migration ran alongside feature work rather than as a big-bang rewrite: ~40% of boilerplate removed without pausing the roadmap.

The Outcome

9,000+ healthcare organizations served, ~35% faster time-to-interactive, and ~40% of boilerplate removed in the migration — a multi-year embedded engagement running since 2023. The platform now serves 9,000+ healthcare organizations, and the engagement has run continuously since 2023 — the strongest endorsement a frontend architecture can get.
